A Brush With Art

Samish Island Paintout is an NWWS function that happens each fall. You can’t believe the vibrations when 40 to 50 talented artists converge in one spot to paint, paint, paint for 4 days.  There was so much amazing stuff happening.  I wish I could share some of what I saw, but you will just have to settle for one of my pieces or Iris in Crystal.  The whole image does not show.

Wedding bells were ringing for my great nephew.  Besides a typical wedding gift, I wanted to give the happy couple a print of a painting from where they grew up.  This is a new painting I completed of Mt. Shucksan just outside of Bellingham, Washington.  I am hoping they will love it for their new apartment life together.

I have been painting for the Art on the Boulevard Gallery and have a couple of new paintings to take in.  The first is a series of sunflowers.  My grandson planted a couple of sunflower seeds in my front yard.  I don’t know the variety but they were huge.  They were above the eves on my house.  Here is a picture of him harvesting the seed head.

So, here are the 3 SUNFLOWER SERIES PAINTINGS that came from these huge sunflowers. They are all 11 inches by 15 inches and will be for sale at Art on the Boulevard.      

A friend of mine lives on a lake in Minnasota.  His son took a picture of his float plane and posted it on facebook.  I thought it was an outstanding photo and asked if I could paint it.  YEAH, it turned out to be a commissioned piece of work for the plane owner.  I just love the colors in the sunset.  Cory’s Vision

Well, I am very busy traveling, gardening, painting and playing Grandma so that I have not posted in way too long.  But it is time again.  I have several exciting announcements to make.

1.  My painting “CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION”  was juried into the Northwest Watercolor International Show.  What an honor.  Keiko Tanabe was the judge.  What a delightful warm and interesting artist she is.

   2.  My recent painting titled “HAND ME DOWN’S”  was just juried into NWWS Waterworks exhibition by Iian Stewart.  How nice is that.  This completes my requirements for becoming a signature member.  Hand Me Down’s is a painting about my older sisters bike.  My dad painted it for me so it looked new.  My father owned a bakery.  In the window you can see a dough mixer.  Notice the bike has a flat tire and a flower basket.  Definitely another hand me down took place.

   3.  CLARK COUNTY OPEN STUDIO TOUR!!!!!!  Luck is with me and once again I have been juried into CCOS.  The date is November 11th and 12th from 10 AM til 5 PM I have lots of great new art and things for you to look at and hopefully take home to your new place.  Hope to see you in my studio.  By the way, I have named my studio ULU.  ULU is an Alaska curved bladed knife and ULU is breadfruit in Hawaiian.  Since I have lived both places I thin ULU is fitting.   CCOS tour postcard

Just to let you know I will be at Art in the Heart downtown Vancouver this evening from 5 til 8 at Art on the Boulevard on Evergreen.  Here is a sample of what I will have for sale.  Paintings, marbled gourds, cards and postcards.  Hope to see you there.

Well, my friends tell me I need to share my good news with you in my blog.  The first painting, Grand Opening won 3rd place at the Battleground Art Alliance show.  That was a pleasant surprise ( and prize.)

The last painting, Spring’s Song won a special award at the Southwest Watercolor Society spring show.  Another sweet surprise and prize.  This could become addicting.

I am also pleased that the Oregon Society of Artists asked permission to use my 2014 Rose Festival painting, Visual Poetry on their prospectus and show postcard for the 2015 Rose Festival Art Show.  That painting won the Peoples Choice award last June.  I am indeed feeling lucky and happy.

Well, I have been painting but not blogging.  I completed a 30 paintings in 30 days in January.  Then I went to Kauai and painted with a great group of artists for 2 weeks.  Then I flew to Indy to see my grand children and take a road trip to Nashville, TN.  We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  17 acres of tropical gardens and waterfalls, and a mini river all under glass.  Then they flew out here and we spent 3 more weeks checking out the library, coast, aquarium and play parks.  They returned home and I started painting again.  This is my latest painting for the 2016 Rose Festival Art Show at the Oregon Society of Artists.  The Show starts June 5th and runs until the end of the month.  If you love Roses, Portland, and great art come check out the show.  The gallery is open 1 to 4 Monday through Saturday.  Enjoy.curtain-call

Well, this  month I have to tell you about an honor that was mine.  Oregon Society of Artists (OSA) made up their new rose festival postcard. My award winning painting, Visual Poetry, was printed on the front.  What an honor.  So, I hope you will visit OSA to see the show.  There are always wonderful rose paintings as well as Rose Festival theme paintings to be viewed.  This years theme is Blooming Good Time.  I will have my orange rose there.
